Francisco Bautista Ortega Arenas was born in 1992 in Jaén, southern Spain, and began his musical training at the age of eight with his father, the Conductor of the municipal music school in Alcaudete. In his homeland, he studied “Bassoon” for ten years with Prof. Juan Ramón Fuentes and Prof. Bartolomé Mayor (“Baroque Bassoon”), in addition to teaching at the music school in Alcaudete and participating in the “Orchesterakademie Barenboim-Said” in Sevilla.

A year abroad took him to Mannheim, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in 2013 with a pedagogical focus under Prof. Ulrich Freund and Stefan Krings (“Contrabassoon”). In 2014, he pursued a master’s degree at the “Musikhochschule Freiburg” with Prof. Diego Chenna and Javier Zafra (“Baroque Bassoon”). In 2019, he completed his second master’s degree at the “Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK)” under Prof. Giorgio Mandolesi (“Fagott” and “Baroque Bassoon”) and Hans Agreda (“Contrabassoon”) in “Bassoon-Performance”. Additionally, in February 2022, he obtained a master’s degree in “Musikpädagogik” at “ZHdK” with Professors Giorgio Mandolesi and Nathalie Blaser.

From January 2019, he served as a “Bassoon” teacher at the “Klang-Konservatorium” in Basel. Today, he teaches “Bassoon” weekly at the “Musikschule Horgen,” “Musikschule Wil” (“Bassoon” and “Record Flute”), “Musikschule Schwyz,” “Regional Musikschule Regensdorf,” and “Musikschule Ingenbohl,” where he also conducts a wind ensemble (“Windsensemble”). Additionally, he has worked as a Temporaly “Bassoon” teacher at various music schools in Switzerland, including the “Musik-Konservatorium Zürich,” the “Musik-Akademie Basel,” the “Konservatorium Winterthur,” and the “Musikschule Muttenz.”

Alongside his teaching activities, he participates in numerous orchestral projects across Switzerland, Germany, France, and Spain, performing on both modern and historical instruments. These include the “Orchestre de Paris,” “Philharmonisches Orchester Baden-Baden,” “Freiburger Barockorchester,” and “City Lights Orchestra Luzern.” and many others .In the summer of 2024, he performed as a soloist with an orchestra on a South American tour and gave Bassoon masterclasses in La Paz and Lima.

Additionally, he is deeply dedicated to chamber music as an active member of the ensembles “Le Pli,” “Perseus Quintett,” and “Madera Fagott Quartett” in Zürich. He is also a member of the organizing committee of the “OSEW- Music Competition” and serves as managing of the annual Latin American chamber music festival “Las Noches” in Zürich.
